Fundada em 1975, a Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) é composta por críticos de cinema profissionais sediados em Los Angeles, que trabalham na imprensa local. A cada dezembro, os membros da LAFCA votam nos Prêmios de Realizações do Ano, homenageando a excelência cinematográfica tanto na frente quanto atrás das câmeras. Placas de reconhecimento são apresentadas aos vencedores durante a cerimônia anual da LAFCA, realizada no meio de janeiro.

Em 2022, ‘TÁR’ e ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ conquistaram uma vitória conjunta como os grandes destaques do prêmio de Melhor Filme. ‘TÁR’ não apenas triunfou nas categorias de Melhor Diretor e Melhor Roteiro para Todd Field, mas também assegurou o prêmio de Melhor Atuação de Protagonista para Cate Blanchett. Por sua vez, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ brilhou ao levar para casa o prêmio de Melhor Atuação de Coadjuvante para Ke Huy Quan, que compartilhou a honra com a atriz Dolly De Leon, reconhecida por sua interpretação em ‘Triângulo da Tristeza’.

No campo das categorias técnicas, os vencedores foram ‘Eo’ por Melhor Fotografia e Melhor Filme de Língua Não Inglesa, ‘Aftersun’ conquistou o prêmio de Melhor Edição, enquanto ‘Avatar: O Caminho da Água’ foi recompensado com o prêmio de Melhor Design de Produção.
